joining us is katie. tell us what happened when the water came in there. i imagine it was very sudden and very scary. >> reporter: it came in within 15 minutes. there was no flooding and then six to ten feet high in most of these areas. they were saying that little ferry was 80% under water. we have a little bit of good news to report tonight. the power is back on in parts of this town, which is a shocking thing for everybody to see here. the street lights are on. some houses have power. the majority of this town is empty. so far they rescued about 500 people from all these houses. they have started at daybreak this morning. the levee broke around midnight, but they started at daybreak this morning and have gotten 500 people out. we should show you the video. it's dramatic. you see people leaving in rafts and canoes and military vehicles. there are elderly people, there are children clinging to rescuers, cats and dogs, the water just didn't discriminate. they literally left in pajamas grabbing whatever they could. that's how quickly the water came in and h

ma'am, thank you very much for joining us tonight. it's really nice to have you here. >> thanks for having me back. >> why did you make your initial decision against enforcing the voter purge list in your county? >> well, you know, florida statute says that loose maintenance, maintaining the voter list is done in odd-numbered years. we did that in 2011 and we did a great job. and at the 11th hour, just before the august 14th primary, this is thrown in the laps of 67 supervisors. of the 2,700 names that were thrown out there statewide, there were just 15 in volusia county. we started contacting these 15. of the 15, the first two, one was in the military overseas. i am not going to write that person a letter, saying you have to be removed from the rolls. the second one proved that she was, indeed, and always has been a u.s. citizen. it so looked like the list was bogus, if you will. it was outdated. of the 15, ten have never voted in volusia county, ever. so i just quietly put the list aside. i did the minimum necessary. i sent 15 lette
